When HEIC to PNG is the right tool

PNG keeps every pixel after decode. That is useful before cropping or retouching, and a poor choice for a 40-photo dump you want to email. If you just need the photo to open on Windows, use the HEIC to JPG converter instead.

Runs in the browser

Same local pipeline as HEIC to JPG: native decode when the browser can, libheif WASM when it cannot. Large 48 MP bursts can exhaust memory on older phones — convert fewer files at once if the tab crashes.

FAQ

When should I pick PNG instead of JPG?

Choose PNG if you will edit the photo, need a lossless intermediate, or want to avoid another generation of JPEG artifacts. For sharing and forms, use HEIC to JPG — it is smaller.

Does HEIC to PNG upload my photos?

No. The decoder runs locally. We cannot see your files.

Will the PNG be huge?

Often yes. HEIC is efficient; PNG is not. That is expected.
