How to convert HEIC to JPG on Windows

Open iPhone HEIC photos on Windows. Convert to JPG in the browser without installing codecs or uploading files.

Why Windows shows a blank icon

iPhone photos are HEIC. Windows 10 and many Windows 11 PCs do not preview them unless you install Microsoft’s HEIF extension (and sometimes an HEVC codec that is not free). A JPG opens everywhere: Explorer, Outlook, printers, HR portals.

Fastest path: browser converter, no install

Copy the photos to the PC (cable, iCloud for Windows, WhatsApp desktop, email). Open Stayontab’s HEIC to JPG tool. Drop the files. Convert. Download. Nothing is uploaded. You do not need the HEIF store extension for this path.

Other Windows options (and their tradeoffs)

The Microsoft HEIF extension lets Explorer preview HEIC but does not always help a website that only accepts .jpg. iCloud Photos can deliver JPG if you change the setting — that is an Apple upload. Paint 3D and some “free converters” still phone home. If the photo is sensitive, keep it local.

Batch from a Camera Roll dump

You can convert up to 20 files at once, then download a zip. If a conversion fails, it is usually a Live Photo pair (.MOV) or a file that is not actually HEIC. Convert the .heic still only.

Ready? Use the HEIC to JPG converter — files never leave this device.
