What HEIC is, and why you need JPG

HEIC is Apple’s default camera format. It is smaller than JPG, which is why the iPhone uses it. Almost everything else — Windows Explorer, HR portals, insurance claims, WhatsApp on desktop, school portals — still wants a .jpg. A HEIC to JPG converter does not “unlock” the photo. It re-encodes the still image into a format the rest of the world already understands.

How this converter works (nothing is uploaded)

You drop a .heic or .heif file. Safari and recent Chrome can decode some HEIC natively. Other browsers load a local copy of libheif as WebAssembly, then the canvas writes a JPEG. Either path stays in this tab. There is no server-side conversion, no file storage, and no account. That is the product: a HEIC to JPG tool that cannot see your photos.

Best JPG quality for iPhone photos

Use 90–92 for sharing and forms: sharp enough, still small. Drop to around 80 for email. Switch to HEIC to PNG only if you will edit the photo and want a lossless copy — PNG files are much larger. Batch up to 20 photos; if the tab crashes on a 48 MP burst, convert fewer files at once.

FAQ

Are my photos uploaded to convert HEIC to JPG?

No. Stayontab has no upload API. Decoding runs in this browser tab. Open DevTools → Network while you convert: you will not see the photo leave your device.

Why won’t Windows open my iPhone photos?

iPhone saves photos as HEIC by default. File Explorer, many printers, and most web forms expect JPG. This converter re-encodes the still image to a standard .jpg on your computer or phone.

Does converting HEIC to JPG keep GPS and camera data?

No. Encoding through the canvas strips EXIF, including location. Orientation is baked into the pixels so the photo still looks upright.

Can I convert Live Photos?

Only the still HEIC frame is converted. The paired video (.MOV) is ignored. If a very large Live Photo runs out of memory on your phone, convert one file at a time.

Is this HEIC to JPG converter free?

Yes. No account, no watermark, no daily file cap on the first batch of 20. The tool is a static page plus a decoder that runs on your device.
